IFDA Selects Best of BKLN Designs
If it's May in New York City, it must be the dizzying array of events that comprise NYCxDesign, a two-week celebration of New York City as the center of design talent.
I was honored to be a judge for one of the first shows of the celebration: Bklyn Designs, a three-day event that showcases design, architecture and art made in Brooklyn from well-established brands as well as emerging designers and artisans who produce furniture, lighting, tableware, art, textiles and jewelry.
Founded by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce in 2003, Bklyn Designs was one of the first design fairs to focus on the creative economy in Brooklyn and we Brooklynites are grateful for their continued support.
With my colleagues from the New York Chapter of the International Furnishings and Design Association, we met at the Brooklyn Expo Center in Greenpoint on a rainy Friday morning. After we selected the winners in 10 categories, we joined local designers at a lunch hosted by AJ Madison Appliances in their booth where we enjoyed a colorful selection of locally grown and sourced fare served up by noted chef (and fellow Brooklyn mom) Katy Sparks' Tulley Road Foods.
Following lunch we awarded winners their plaques which were received with surprise and gratitude. Congratulations all!
